That is a question to think about, isn’t it? So, what is the answer? Is there one grouping of people that are great for everyone to follow? No, not really. There is not a “one size fits all” answer. Making a decision about who to follow can be more difficult than you think. But, following just anyone on Twitter is not an option; Twitter is starting to become a “spam machine.”

When you are trying to make a choice about following someone on Twitter, the person you are considering should fit a certain criteria list. For starters, you shouldn’t follow spammers! I cannot emphasize this enough. So, how do you determine if someone is a spammer? All you have to do is look at his or her “tweet list.” Whatever that person tweets will tell you everything you need to know, trust me.

Should you return the favor if sombody follows you?

This all depends on a couple of things. You must ask yourself, who is this person and why is he or she following you? For anyone who does not have a big group of followers, all you have to do is send a message and ask the follower, but if the group is considerably large then get a desktop client and install it. A desktop client will straighten everything right on out.

Actually, I once followed people on Twitter just so they would follow me; some people refer to this as the “Twitter Effect.” With the Twitter Effect, I got 1,034 followers in only a week. Yes, I got the large numbers I was looking for, but I did not even know who most of my followers were. And, at the time I did not even care. I then realized that about 700 to 900 of my followers were just spammers and promoters, so guess what I got to do. I had to remove each person from my following list by myself because they were using Twitter in a way I didn’t like.

Even though I learned my lesson the hard way, it doesn’t mean you have to. Now, I get followers on Twitter by using two steadfast rules: the Attraction Law and the Relationship Power law. I get the numbers because I provide value to my followers.

You should follow people who give quality.

Twitter is a fabulous way to give and to get value. This is the whole point behind Twitter, and people are finally starting to catch on. Twitter is a fantastic way to share blog posts, news headlines, video clips, funny jokes, interesting quotes, and so much more.

Twitter was never made for use in advertising, promotion, or increasing sales. Twitter is really meant for boosting the infectious power of web 2.0. Twitter is easy to use to share and give quality. Twitter is wonderful, and I really love what it can do for people and their businesses; this is why I would never take advantage of it. There are just too many people who take this fantastic tool and use it in inappropriate ways.

In other words, follow the quality and only the quality.

When you get down to it, the only people worth following are quality people. Quality people are those who like to tweet and don’t abuse their Twitter privileges. Quality tweeters can even make your life a little better. How? They can brighten your day by maybe tweeting a funny or motivational joke. So, follow the people who give; just remember to give it back.
