tips everyone should know1. Watch what you tweet; everything on Twitter can be seen by anyone.

2. Do not use Twitter as a business or personal email service. Just tweet. Because once again, anything you say on Twitter can be viewed by anyone.

3. Tweet on a regular basis. If you do not, there will be nothing for your followers to follow.

4. You only have 140 characters at your disposal per tweet, so get straight to the point.

5. Toot your horn, but not too loud. Even though your followers like to know all about you, your business, and whatever it is you are doing, they will not want to bother following a blowhard.

6. Twitter is basically a social network and a public network. You can be found by anyone, and anyone can see who follows you and who you follow.

7. Twitter is not like Facebook or Linkedin or Plurker. Twitter will not ask before creating links between you and another user, unless in the case of point #12 below. Everything is out there for the world to see.

8. A message that contains @yourTwitterID is called a “mention.” You can see who has been mentioning you by going to Home and choosing your @yourTwitterID. By making a link that goes to your page, you can view how your friends, family, coworkers, and customers have included you in their own tweets. Your associates can assist with boosting your visibility.

9. You have the option of putting your real name or your business name in the Setting/Name area. This means that anyone can search for you by name and look you up on Twitter. Also, your name will show up in your Twitter Profile page, and that page is open to everyone.

10. It is true; you can tweet via your mobile phone. All you have to do is go to your Settings/Device page.

11. Anything you post is available to the general public, so provide protection for your copyrights and your trademarks.

12. Twitter has a Privacy Protect Option. This will control who sees your updates by limiting access to only people who you approve. Exercising this option keeps updates out of the public time line, which in turn shields updates from search engines. However, this should not be considered a marketing technique.
